What Invoice Simple genuinely does well
Credit where due — there are real reasons it’s the category leader. It scans paper receipts into expenses. It sends invoices as a hosted link and shows you when the client opened it. It has reports, autofill from a client library, and a long track record with a big review base. If your business lives on those features, Invoice Simple is a reasonable pick, and we’d rather tell you that than have you find out after switching.
What to check before you subscribe
The caps. Three invoices a month on the $6.99 plan is fine for occasional billing and tight for a working trade. Most active businesses end up on the $14.99 or $21.99 tier — price the tier you’ll actually need, not the one in the ad.
Plan changes over time. Invoice Simple’s own help center notes that older accounts with unlimited invoicing are being merged into the current capped plan structure — worth knowing if you’re choosing a tool to grow old with. Their recent App Store reviews include complaints about price increases and about limits changing mid-subscription; read a page of them yourself before deciding (that advice applies to any app, ours included).
Where your data lives. Invoice Simple requires an account and stores your invoices in its cloud. That enables cross-device sync — and it also means your invoice history lives with your subscription. Pocket Invoice keeps data on your device by design: no account required, export any time, and your invoices don’t depend on us staying in your good graces.
What Pocket Invoice does differently
We built Pocket Invoice around one idea: invoices without traps. Fixed, published pricing — $3.99, $9.99, or $14.99 a month, the same for everyone. Caps roomy enough that the entry plan covers a real month of work. Invoices, estimates, and receipts from nine templates, with totals and tax handled. Your data stays on your phone. And the tools on this site — the generator, templates, and receipt maker — are free with no signup and no watermark, whether or not you ever install the app.
What we don’t have yet, in fairness: receipt-scanning for expenses, open tracking on sent invoices, and a decade of reviews. We’re new, we’re on TestFlight, and this page will say so for as long as that’s true.
